The Urban America Forward program is a partnership between the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement, Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture, School of Social Service Administration and Harris School of Public Policy. Urban America Forward marries a racial equity framework with evidence-informed urban policy and practice.

Building upon a strong foundation of identifying practices and policies to promote equity in urban settings, the 2019 Urban America Forward: Equity Solutions in Place conference leveraged the University of Chicago’s research strengths, convening power, and partnerships to examine emerging practices in place-based work to further inclusive growth.
The two-day Urban America Forward: Equity Solutions in Place conference provided a platform for community leaders in the city of Chicago and cities across the country to share learnings and knowledge related to place-based approaches for improving racial equity and economic inclusion in urban communities. The program centered on strategies and tactics that engage local leaders as the architects of change and that leverage the unique history, culture, civil leadership, institutions, and other core community capacities in a variety of urban contexts to achieve transformational community-wide outcomes.
